saw The Master last night

- by admin

which was step 1. of our date night where I was all

why don't we go see a movie? we never go out to see movies these days

and then we got to silvercity polo park and Tyrone got stuck in the huge-assed line to buy tickets and because we were short on time I went to get snacks and here's how it went down:

I stepped into a line with five peeps in it, stood there for a sec and realized

hey the line next to me is just two chicks at the register, I'd better hop over there

so I hopped

and waited

and waited

and waited

because apparently people don't know that while they're waiting in line for the concessions they should figure out wtf they want first and then start talking about whatevs instead of the other way around

plus the chick was trying to get the concession girl to scan some barcode from her smartphone because she lost whataver it was she was trying to use

(scene card? who cares)

and wound up having to slo-o-o-o-wly recite the sku to her and then omg they forgot that extra small drink and omg they needed it no ice and omg I was ready to kill them.

by this time the line I had left was already past the spot I would have secured (of course) and there's a huge line-up behind me and these two chicks are still yammering away and Tyrone showed up and I said

this is going nowhere

but by now you're committed and there's nothing you can do but wait. even tho the movie has started and you're going to have to find your seats in the dark.

luckily by the time we flew through our order and got to the theatre we had only missed some of the previews and since we weren't going to see some stupid movie like hotel transylvania 3D, taken 2, franenweenie 3D or paranormal activity 4 (wtf) the theatre wasn't jammed full of people so we found a seat okay.

the moral of the story is that people are inconsiderate and don't know how to do anythin and the master is a really disturbing epic of a film and PT Anderson is a friggin' genius.

it seems to be his 'thing' to do movies about these really rotten, atrocious people and the characters in this movie were seriously effed up. also it's about cults (if you know anything about scientology you'll see a lot of resemblances between lancaster dodd-hoffman's character- and l. ron hubbard are striking).

it's a tough movie that's a challenge to the audience, but you know I like a good challenge and this didn't disappoint.

if you liked there will be blood, then see this because it's just as good and worth the hassle it'll take to get yr damn popcorn.

too much happened today, and nothing really at all

- by admin

had weird dreams which isn't unusual. if I told you guys half the weird shit I dream about every night you'd think I was crazy and be jealous that you don't get to have the same nighttime adventures I do.

it's why I love naps. you always get the weirdest dreams when you sleep during the day.

whenever I'm sick like I am today I curl up in bed with my ipad and fall asleep to futurama or something like it and wake up still convinced that I'm somewhere else. except today my dreams were weird and I had to wake up before they were over and as I rolled out of bed I wasn't even sure I was awake, my head was so stuffed up.

it's one of the only good things about being sick, especially when you're sick and have to drag your sorry sick ass to class because you have to do a presentation and then this chick that you hate who constantly challenges everything everyone says feels the need to keep you up there defending your presentation for ten minutes when you just want to fall over.

I'm not saying all feminists are like this, but why is it all the ornery, nitpicky bitches in any class I've ever taken always self-identify as "feminists"?

seriously. all yr girl wanted to do was go back to my desk and keep my head down while she harassed every other presenter today about how they were wrong. then the class started talking about 'blogs as a medium' and people started talking about jenna marbles and I nearly lost it.

it was just one of those days.

the only solution was to grab a sammich and lie on the couch with The President and watch battlestar gallactica which I'm watching for the first time (shh I know) and it's so intense omg.

I was still feeling like junk later when tyrone came home and started making me soup and kat came by on a wave of rainbows and cuteness with half a homemade pumpkin pie which was perfect and delicious and so sweet and we watched joe kill it during the debate which made everything better.

now I'm on one end of the couch writing this and drinking the best coffee and tyrone is feeding me pieces of the cake that we're sharing as we watch more BSG and Ford is here purring and everything is great.

funny how a bunch of small things can make yr day go to shit

and how some other small things can make it better

it's almost the weekend and I'm excited.

Why I'm Voting for Mitt Romney

spoiler: I'm not, but this upstanding young lady is.

this is how that video made me feel:

it's thanksgiving and we are watching star trek

- by admin

because in this past three-day span I have
visited tyrone's family
my family
and some dear friends
went to a club show
gotten free drinks
ate lots of turkey
stayed out too late
woke up too early
went for a long walk
ate a reuben with kimchi
edited an oral history project proposal
written a midterm paper
ran like mad on the treadmill
and
watched a different star trek movie
so watching this one only makes sense
plus tom hardy is in it.
yum.

omg it's Symptom Tech's birthday

- by admin

it's XVI old which means sixteen, which is the age I was when I went to one of their first parties which is kinda cray to think about.

it was called 20,000 Watts Under the Sea and my dear friend and onetime fake husband on the Internet alex-lee convinced me and my friend Dyan that it'd be a good idea to lie to our parents about where we were going and go to (dum dum dum) a rave.

if you haven't been to a rave don't bother because the crap they call 'raves' today isn't the kind of rave I went to that night and from what my elders from 'the scene' tell me this was on the tail-end of when raves were good, and believe me this one was good. so good that the giant fight I had with my parents when I came home the next day was totally worth it.

I was a changed almost-woman.

since then I've gone to my fair share of 'raves' and have watched the legitimacy of those massive parties slip away into the more sophisticated club shows that you can occasionally see my face out at, and are sometimes thrown by the kids at Symptomtech who, like me, aren't kids anymore.

now we're old and jaded and talk about the 'good old days when parties were still good'.

even though they're still good, sometimes. usually when the people I know are throwing them which is the case here but nevertheless.

that party changed things for me.

as a result of that one experience I met most of the people I'm friends with now, tyrone who I've been dating for nearly three years, a trip to montreal, multiple music festivals in other provinces, and my role in MEME.

all because Symptom Tech threw a party. and alex-lee took me to it.

thanks kids, and happy anniversary!
