bonded with a stranger today

not like that omg get yr mind out of the gutter.I was at starbucks in polo park waiting for my tall skinny vanilla latte in the teeny-tiny waiting space they give you after you've ordred which is in-between the rope they use to corral you into the line, and a door so people can exit and enter the starbucks
which is bad enough as it is
but after I got my tall skinny vanilla latte that said 'Tyrone' on it (because he ordered it for me, the sweet thing) I turned to put some milk in it and grab a lid and one of those nice sleeves you put on yr cup so you don't spill tall skinny vanilla latte all over yr fingers
and there was this chick at the milk/sugar/lids bar
standing there
taking her sweet-assed time
this chick was skinny as fawk so it wasn't a matter of physical bulk taking up space, she was just taking up all of it
you guys know what I mean
I sighed real loud and the dude next to me who was also waiting with his coffee in hand
looked over at me and we both pressed our lips into thin lines of disgust and widened our eyes at each other as if to say
wtf is going on here
and chicky is picking through all the various milks
and picking oh, just the absolute perfect cup lid for her precious whatever-the-fuck she was drinking
and her equally douchey boyfriend, with his hat and its stupid gold sticker
just grinned stupidly
and this went on
and on
and on
for a good couple of minutes
which doesn't seem like long but is an eternity in the world of starbucks drink condiment lines
and finally she leaves and dude and I both sign
and he offers to let me use the milk/sugar/lids bar first because some people have manners and he can see my cup doesn't have one of those cardboard anti-heat things
but I said
no
we can share, there's enough room for both of us
and as we put the final touches on our overpriced drinks
we rolled our eyes at each other
and smiled
and he said
"she must not be from around here"
and I laughed.

was under-dressed today by accident.
wore a dress & suit-jacket to school thinking I looked posh but what I actually looked like was cold.
it was raining and I didn't have an umbrella but I didn't care because I was just going to class to sit and learn, anyway.
I was the only person smiling at the crosswalk
everyone else was frowning under their umbrellas or hoods and wearing jeans and sneakers and I was getting drenched in my dress and grinning like a maniac
because why the eff not?
life is good, damn the rain.
a boy looked at me like I was crazy but I just grinned at him and he smiled, too
and asked if I wanted to share his umbrella
I said no, thanks, but you're a peach for offering
and splashed in a puddle on my way across the street.
first day back at school and I almost didn't blog omg

to be honest I was a bit stressed that all my books wouldn't come in on time
especially the odyssey which omg I have to read six sections of by next monday and a bunch of chapters from the book about
orality and literacy
both of which I am quite good at

I know everyone loves what they're taking in school or at least likes it to some extent
because why else would they take it
but I seriously love being a rhetoric student because language and communication is so, so
important
and fascinating and weird and I come out of my classes all jazzed up about it
which I guess makes me into one of those over-zealous students I used to make fun of

sorry I've been so whiny lately

looking back august was a pretty tough month. lots of personal ish went down and things got messy and I was stressed about student loans and classes and the usual student garbage on top of it. the only good thing about it was Connect and even that was a bit touch & go.
so surprise surprise we decided to kick august out with a bang and ring in a newer, cooler, more awesome month and did so first by joining @cenquist and @abstractartform for drinks at the forks.
before I go on I have to give credit where credit's due, and colin always introduces us to the coolest people. boy is a master networker if I ever met one.
anyway.
yr girl had a bunch of g&t's and maybe got into a too-heated debate with shea about tribbing (NSFW NSFW NSFW) which I'm sure the rest of the patio LOVED to hear.
one of my favourite things to do is sit and drink and people-watch and we did just that all to a backdrop of classical music coming from the barge on the river yonder.
eventually that scene got old and shae was all
let me take u guys to the best karaoke in the city. it's at saffron's and it's going to blow yr mind
and not gonna lie I was like
'meh'
but we went and I was wrong. so, so wrong.
within minutes of arriving a dude got up and sang phantom of the opera which is a wicked to begin with but made 10x better because he'd sing christine's part in a high falsetto, and phantom's part all deep with one hand covering his face (like the phantom's mask, silly)
dude changed my life for reals.
I've never seen karaoke of this calibre before and there was such a unique cast of characters there like
'A Superman' with the jaw of steel
and the super buff asian dude with the metal glasses and deep-assed voice
and the gay latino with the thin moustache who kept bringing girls up to sing duets from Rent
and oh hai jbroadway who serenaded us all with a serious rendition of my fav song from the killers
and my favourite the guy whose table we crashed who looked like the guy from 1972 solaris and sat there sipping his beer cool as a cucumber and then got up and killed it singing the beatles.
wow wow wow.
we closed down the bar and didn't roll into our casa until 4am after partying more with the boys and Dog Marley (best dog name ever) and even more debates about tribbing omg and the single shared beer and freestyling (though not by me).
totally the recharge yr girl needed to welcome september and a perfect reminder that
I have the best life.

had a dream last night about an alternate universe where everything was black and white and these versions of ourselves walked around leading totally different lives than the ones we had.
my parents were cruising around the world on this giant yacht where my dad was throwing these raging parties.
one of our friends (I think it was komus) was living on a spaceship.
colin was living in the mountains in this old temple.
one of my brothers was living in africa saving the elephants.
I was living in this huge mansion with corinthian columns and this massive pool that I was floating around in on this huge inflatable mattress. tony and raymi lived next door. tyrone was making these huge murals all over the house and his mom lived in an equally huge house up the street.
but I was happy to wake up from it all and come back real life
cause you guys know I love Hip Hop Sunday.

feels like the longest week ever which is funny because don't they all feel like that before the long weekend? work flew by today which was nice and I made it home in record time because there's, like, zero wind you guys and though I'm glad my day zoomed by I hope the weekend doesn't because yr girl needs this shit bad.
what am I up to you ask? beyond drinks at The Forks in a bit with @cenquist, @abstractartform and Tyrone but beyond that I literally have no idea.
it's scary.
