been busy learnin'
- by admin
we went on a Winnipeg General Strike Tour with my History of Winnipeg class which was fun and hilarious but required that we shuttle around the city and poor Hayley was driving and Eva was giving directions and I sat in the backseat on my phone being useless and probably annoying and we were late to all our destinations but one and I realized at the end of it thatwow
shuttling around places in 30 degree weather in a black leather and shorts and tights stresses me out more than I thought it would
(also printing on campus is expensive)
but today in my other class we talked about Ptolemy and also Spirograph (or something like it)
and since I've been busy learning here's some learning for you, too
(because I wouldn't want you to miss out because ILU)
Tony Pierce is in Canada

which you already know.my favourite busblogger is rocking sweet photo-essays of my home and native land, Oh Candada, and eating lots of Canuck fast food, poutine, partying in Ottawa and Quebec
and while all that's fine and dandy
I won't be impressed until he does a low-budget auto-tuned music video about it
it's late

you don't want to hear me bitch about the headache I've had all dayor the 4.5hrs I spent on campus glued to a chair in the library working on my History of Science paper
the fact that my class went to see some MLA's debate on poverty in my province and Gord Mackintosh talked in circles and let the NDP down (sorry guy)
or that the data that I pay 30$/mth for decided to DIE COMPLETELY during the debate which meant I couldn't tweet my oh-so-interesting thoughts about it
and you know, seriously, Rogers, why has your service been so awful lately? my texts don't go through, my data cuts out constantly or is so slow there's no point in using it... maybe I should think about calling you and getting my bill adjusted because this is seriously a bunch of bovine stercus
but this isn't a post about that, either because you don't want to hear me bitch at length about the awful reception, dropped call, and data that barely works at the best of times.
or maybe it is, because I can't seem to stop typing about how annoyed I am with their service lately.
sorry guys, better luck tomorrow.
here's a cool video of some art to make up for it:
thought I wasn't going to blog today eh?

my mum is from England so you know she loves three things:
- by admin
1. Tea
2. Elton John
3. Freddie Mercury
my first memories of my mum when I was growing up are either of her cleaning the house on Sunday mornings smelling like furniture polish listening to Elton John or drinking tea and my first memory of trying to understand what a homosexual was, was when she'd talk about Queen and say "Freddie Mercury was gay, what a waste" (I think she had a thing for him but have never confirmed this)
truth be told I don't know if my mum even likes Queen (she's more an Elton gal) but that lady loves Freddie Mercury and why wouldn't she? who doesn't? I'll tell you who: people who hate homosexuals and people who have poor taste in music. which are probably all the same people anyway.
even if you're like my mum and aren't into good music besides Elton John (sorry mum! I still love you! do you even read this?) you still have to accept that Freddie Mercury is one of the most talented musicians ever and Queen was hands-down the shit.
sure I'm kind of against the song "we will rock you" but that's because it's so bloody good that you hear it every time something even awesome/epic happens which is basically like all the time. also at sporting events (or 'we are the champions', but not as often).
Mr Mercury would have been 65 today if he hadn't died of AIDS. can you believe that? can you imagine what rock music would have become if he'd been able to live longer? we can't because what those guys did was just too game-changing and original and trying to figure out what they would have come up with next would make you go cross-eyed from thinking too hard.
their stuff completely changed the face of music and is still hugely influential and will probably always be. I can't think of a single rock musician off the top of my head who hasn't quoted Queen/Freddie Mercury as sources of inspiration, can you? don't even try because odds are you can't, they were huge, are huge, and will always be huge.

Chilly Gonzales is weird and I like that
and he's really, really good
also here is a video of him performing my other fav song 'Supervillain Music' with an orchestra. yeah.
happy Hip Hop Sunday

so I start to feel bad for myself, or confused
like maybe I can't handle what's thrown at me
then I see stuff like this:
and I tell myself to stop being such a damn baby
If you laugh you're horribe, just like me

Growing up we played on a wooden structure with a huge tire swing
it had a huge slide when I was really little, too
but some kid fell off it so they took it away
though the play structure stayed there for most of my childhood
despite kids getting slivers, and bashing their faces & limbs from swinging around on the tire swing
sometimes we (me) even flew off because we lost our grip
but the times are a-changin' and playgrounds aren't what they once were
now they're plastic, and 'safe'
except this one
if I ever have kids I hope there's no Spinning Mushroom of Death in the playground near our house
because I'd look like a really bad parent for laughing at the stupid kids trying to use it
The forecast here sucks

but I probably wouldn't mind so much if Tom Hanks did the weather every morning
