one of those days

- by admin

okay it wasn't that bad.

Tyrone is sick and I am, too. Spent most of the night tossing and turning on the couch half-listening to episodes of TNG and sniffling. I find being sick isn't that bad except for when you can't sleep, which only happens at night and only during nights when you have stuff to do the next day (of course).

needless to say today was a write off of sweaty bed-sleeping and matted hair and kitty cuddles.

Eventually I had to clean myself up and showered and went to the corner store to get stuff for dinner. I always feel like a rock star going into our grubby corner store because everyone else in the neighbourhood goes there in their yoga pants and fuggs and unwashed hair and I'm too vain/neurotic to leave the house unless I look decent.

What I'm leading up to here is that some cute random hipster guy hit on me while I was in the checkout line buying meat and veg and whatnot. He said something really uncool like "I'd let a pretty girl like you make me stew anytime".

Needless to say it made my day because nothing is better than feeling pretty when your head feels like exploding.

Also the stew I made was amazing. Protip: use 1/3 cup of balsamic vinegar and it will make yr beef stew ah-ma-zing.

k back to tea and the couch and DS9.

got hit on in Value Village the other day

- by admin

dear friend John is having a party tonight which involved wearing pyjamas and playing in blanket forts and eating sleepover food. oh and drinking, of course, because that makes it acceptable for adults to do these kinds of ridiculous things.

which meant on thursday we went to Value Village with Kat & John and scoped out random clothes and also more blankets with which to make the aforementioned amazing fort.

at one point I went over to scope the book section as I usually do. I think all but one of my Margaret Atwood books have come from VV and a lot of other books in my library, too, so I always go over to scope out which books people don't want to read anymore.

so I round the corner walking with the kind of determination that you only get while in a store filled with people slowly walking with huge shopping carts and almost walk smack into this dude

oops

I apologize and step around him and start examining the 'literature' section because obviously that's what I read, right?

and I'm standing there surveying the books and you know that feeling you get when you know someone is looking at you? I'm getting that hardcore so I turn and look at the dude in the aisle with me with an espression I hope is conveying the following sentiment:

yeeeeeeeeeeeeees?

one eyebrow cocked and everything and sure enough he's looking at me and looks away and I look away because not it's extra-weird and he goes

you look really nice this evening

and runs out of the aisle.

which made it extra awkward when later on while looking through obnoxious suit combo outfits he came around the corner and we made eye contact and he ducked behind a rack of jeans to avoid me. awesome.

but Tyrone is playing Skyward Sword and we're both tearing up, so I'd better go before the waterworks turn on.

unrelated to my earlier story but this game is so sweet.

pretended to be binary stars this morning

- by admin

over coffee this morning we checked out Google Chrome's 3D stellar neighbourhood which is the coolest thing ever.

as a part of our busy day it's always fun to bond over stuff on the internet and make silly remarks and learn a bit together before we part ways

usually it's some dumb image on reddit or a news article we're all fired up about.

today we were talking about binary stars and he took my hands in the living room and we spun around

smiling at each other

and after I went back to brushing my teeth and he combed his hair

we packed lunches and took out the garbage and said

goodbye.

but being a binary star this morning has had me smiling all day

and I need to say it, even though I try not to on the blog

I love you, Tyrone

thanks for being my primary star.

turns out drawing "bookends" is harder than you'd think

- by admin

especially with a tummy full of crazy good food n turkey n drinks

I know easter is a time for family but we decided to share it with the family we get to pick

namely, some of the finest individuals you could ever hope to make mildly offensively-titled alcoholic beverages and play mildly offensive games with.

also we played pictionary which I am not good at when drunk or at all.

it was also #cenquistday which if you're unfamiliar is a day that is dedicated to our favourite
ninja turtle loving
hat wearing
#crecomm studying
craft beer drinking
friend from the Internet
@cenquist

it was also the day we went out and bought a car.

wtf did YOU do?

had a dream about mcdonalds last night

- by admin

way back when I was a tween I used to work at a mcdix in this underground walkway downtown called winnipeg square and I haven't thought about that job in ages

so it was extra-weird to dream about mcchickens and chocolate milk and mini fridges under the counter

for the first time in close to a decade.

people I knew kept showing up and asking

alyson wtf are you working at mcdix for

and I had no idea.

I was too busy stressing that the mcmuffins were burnt and the grease in the fryer hadn't been changed

and I hadn't gotten my lunch break yet and it was almost time for the dinnertime rush

which was especially weird because I only worked till 4pm

so I had already made like a tree and gtfo'd before that ish started.

though one thing I did like working there was the zen state you got into

when everything was past-paced and crazy and it felt like if you slowed down you would lose yr head

kinda like how things are right now.

good but cray.

suddenly my dream makes sense.

the latest man in my life

- by admin

is younger than me. he's only three months old.

we haven't been together very long. only a month and half since he came into my life.

he shows affection is ways I'm not used to.

he climbs on me and sucks on my hair and kneads my neck.

purring.
when I sit on the couch and type on the laptop (like I'm doing now)541462_10152632498670323_77071178_n

he climbs up my chest and hangs over my shoulder

giving me a huge furry hug.

he likes everyone and everyone likes him

just like one of the other important men that I live with

(no, not Ford, silly. Tyrone!)

I'm lucky to have all of them.

they all make me happy all of the time.

but this little sweetheart holds a special place in my heart

even if he does break into my purse and carry tampons around the apartment in his mouth.

you've gotta take the good with the bad, right?

my older astronaut crush is good at reddit

- by admin

maybe it's because he's charming or maybe because he's in space or maybe because he's a canuck like me, I totally have a thing for chris hadfield.

not in the like 'let's do it' kinda way though

but in the like 'let's high five and drink beers because you could be my dad or cool uncle' kinda way

kinda how I loved jack layton

I love this dude

(maybe it's the moustaches?)

anyway the astronaut who makes my heart go pitter-pat wrote a cute little post on reddit today that made me smile:

Hi all. My son alerted me to the thread, and although I'm racing around (the world) today, I wanted to pop in to give my sincerest thanks and gratitude for all the support I've received from this eclectic online community.

The AMAs, general discussions and feedback have all been tremendous. I am genuinely humbled by the response we've had so far. To those who asked questions, provided answers where I couldn't, helped create visibility for the space program or even upvoted a photo - you are actively making a difference. Every little step forward, and every new eye opened is proactive movement towards a sustained and well-supported space program, and thus better understanding of the universe and our Earth's place in it.

Thank you reddit. Sincerely.

all the thank-you's are how you know he's canadian ;)

next door neighbour

- by admin

laughs really loudly
watches action films
either has friends over a lot
or has many phone conversations
writes passive-aggressive notes
yell-talks
leaves his nice leather shoes out in the hall
has a bachelor suite
doesn't like when I play my music too loud
but still holds the door open in the mornings
if we're leaving at the same time.

hi.

PechaKucha the thirteenth

this school kid doesn't usually go out on school nights
but nicole and joseph were speaking
and I'll always come out to support cool people

totally worth it.

I've been to a few PKN's but this one was by far the best.

we wore 3D glasses
drank tasty half pints lil scrapper
got a talking-to about legislation
were inspired to create positive change
laughed
cheered
and
listened to good music
(among other things).

afterward yr girl, tyrone, vanessa & jackson jammed to jay z in nicole's car

and I stuffed my face with greasy lil pizza heaven
(because I've worked out every day this week, dammit!)

perfect evening.
